You don't say what it is about those books that you like. Is it that they are series books with cliffhanger endings?

Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause
The Last Vampire books by Christopher Pike
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix
A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels by Libba Bray
The Goose Girl and it's sequel by Shannon Hale
Misery by Stephen King
Sunshine by Robin McKinley
Witch Child by Celia Bray
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
Anything by Daphne DuMaurier, but especially Rebecca. Very gothic and dramatic.

You might also like Anne Rice, but I find her books over-written. Too much description and too little story. I liked The Witching Hour, though.

I found the VC Andrews books interesting, but like you, got bored after a while. After I grew up and read more, I realized that they weren't all that well written. Very soap-opera-ish. I think the books listed above are all compelling stories, like the VCA books, but better written.

I love those books! After I read all that were out in print I just grabbed books to try and find something similar. I enjoyed "White Oleander" "Bastard out of Carolina" and then I dipped back into classics that were suggested reading in high school. Like "Catch 22", "Catcher in the Rye".
