Train is quicker and a little less cramped. The bus costs $74 one way - train is $75 one way (eco) - first class $105 - Plane can cost as little as $120 (Qantas)

I have travelled the journey from melbourne to sydney numerous times. and vice versa. I would deffinalty say greyhound busses. The trains get very stuffy and when your on the bus you get to stop off and buy something, have a smoke, and stretch your legs.
It does take just a little bit longer though

depends where you are coming from. If you are coming from Adelaide or Sydney I would choose FireFly Coaches over greyhound anyday. Firefly is faster and has better coaches.

Train is smoother and more cruisey, but generally costs more and is a slower than firefly.

Would be worth checking out the airlines as you can fly one way for as little as $80 inc all fee and taxes (book via internet)

It would probably be cheaper to fly... especially if you can travel mid-week (Tues or Wed with Virgin is cheap) unless you fear flying.

There are loads of flights every day so its easy to get a good fare.

Someone recommended Firefly... I agree, they aer a good company, but I haven't travelled with them for many years as I prefer to fly.

Countrylink are horrible to deal with, I was quoted 5 different prices for the same seats online, in person & by phone... in the end it was cheaper to go on the day & grab a seat last minute. The food onboard is expensive rubbish so best to take your own.
