1. Tan can be a short name for Tanjore, now Thanjavur.
It is a region in South India rich with Sculptures, paintings and famous for Metal Plates [was earlier in Gold, silver, brass and more] and Silk stoles. It is the place of the Nataraj, the Lord of "Dancing". Classical Indian Dance form hails from this region.
