In light of other answers given to this question, my answer may seem very selfish.
But it hurts my heart when I do a nice thing for someone and they thank me by hurting me and breaking my trust.
I try to convince myself and others that I am fine with it all, but my heart knows the truth.
So every now and then I need to make myself cry to ease the pressure on my heart so that it can be ready for more pain from these ungrateful sacks of sh*t.

My heart hurt yesterday when one of the little 1st graders at school told me that her mommy didin't have money to buy valentines to give next week at the party.

A great many things hurt my heart.
The sorrow I have seen in others after a loss of someone special.
Any animal not treated well.
Children crying for attention from their computer addicted parents.
Poverty in our nation.
Seeing the mistreatment of anyone.
I could go on and on.

seeing children in 3rd world countries suffer starvation and no medical help
the war in Iraq so many lives lost
terrorists killing innocent people for what
child abuse
homelessness
the loss of my dad and husband
seeing my kids hurting

-Seeing animals suffer because of man hurts me deeply, people mistreating animals etc.. it is just horrible because they are so defenceless.
-My son crying is the other thing which hurts my heart, even if it is just a scrape on the knee, I hate seeing him upset.

seeing children and women getting hurt because of unwanted war
children that do not have parents
old citizens who do not have any place to live in
people who are poor and cant afford basic necessities
