My ******* mouse keeps jumping around my screen and I have a hard time navigating with it. It's a standard P/S2 optical mouse. What could be the problem?

......you sould try changing the "mouse-pad", if you have one, or put something else under your mouse......try something with a simple pattern, like say a math page, the optical mouse sould see diferences in shapes on the pad to work properly....if not it "reads" a wrong direction move from it.....

Check that its fully plugged in. Could be a bad chip, or a bad wire or connection in the old mouse. Try another mouse to verify the mouse is the problem or just replace it. They're cheap.

Take the Ball out of the Bottom of the Mouse and clean it. Also take a QTip and use rubbing Alcohol and clean the Rollers off too. WAIT until it is dry before you put the ball back into it. Do NOT use very much Alcohol.
