Because we are full of the self. When if we do become saturated and permeated with Christ, then we will not be so selfish. A person may receive Christ into their human spirit, but it still takes a lot before this person lets Christ saturate and permeate into their soul (mind, emotion and will). Such a person will not be selfish.

Society has become so hustle and bustle that we have forgotten what really important. We have things we need to get done, we want an abundance of material things. It is truly amazing how selfish we can be.
I was passing a bad car accident the other day and people in the cars around me were yelling because of the backup of traffic. Did anyone wonder or worry that anyone was seriously hurt in this accident, or were they just concerned about getting where they needed to go? We need to stop and open our eyes every once in a while and realize how selfish we really are.
