Yeah it's pathetic. My children went on their usual early morning tube to school, got there no problems, despite it being 13 miles away. The school up the road from me though, decided its ickle kids shouldn't have to walk through all that nasty white stuff and they are closed. More like teachers getting a nice skive if you ask me.

Well my school was in a town. The town had roughly 30 coaches come in from all of the surrounding villages. The snow blocked all the back roads. No coaches = no kids = no school. Also, teachers lived in the villages, so they couldn't get to school either.

School would not know what to do with all the children at playtime. When I was young, each class stayed in the class room for break if it was raining.
Everyone looks for an excuse to take a break and school teachers are no excuse - schools closed: snow, too much sun, rain, teacher training.... asbestos.. any excuse!!!

I know, its madness. We even had letters yesterday confirming all schools in the borough were closed. It would have been funny if it hadnt snowed after all.I think its a case of people not being able to travel or more like not wanting to.

Yup - it's fear of prosecution in our litigious society. The bus and taxi companies which bring many children to school daren't risk it; neither do the schools and the local authorities. Just imagine the headlines: 'Poor innocent children injured in bus crash because Head didn't close school when blizzard struck'. They just can't win!

I think it's mainly due to lack of transport if buses etc fail to run. Also, i guess that it's better to have the kids at home than ending up being stuck at school.
