Do your clothes not wear out as quickly in a noticable amount of time? The only thing I notice is that they can press my clothes better than I can. And of course there is the time differential.

Right now I throw my nice shirts in the wash on the gentle cold cycle, hang dry them, and then iron them...they look pretty good afterwards and it doesn't cost me 2 bucks a shirt.

Weighing all the ups and downs, do you think dry cleaning is worth it?

Dry cleaning clothing is definitely worth the money. It is the only way to clean some fabrics.

Wet washing shirts by dry cleaners is too expensive when you can do it yourself. Some dress shirts are 100% cotton and wrinkle up like raisins when they are washed. If you are not skilled with an iron, you might want to have those shirts professionally washed and ironed.

For me, the best dress shirts are the Stafford Collection from J C Penney Company. The cotton/polyester blend can be washed, dried in a dryer then worn without the need for even touch up ironing. They are truly wrinkle free.

It's a fairly toxic process. The chemicals used have an environmental impact. They are also a health hazard and some individuals may be sensitive to them.

Perc for example is carcinogenic. Some dry cleaners may not be able to remove all traces of the chemicals used from the material.

Perc can seep through the ground and contaminate surface water, groundwater, and potentially even drinking water. The EPA sets limits for what is acceptable in the US.

There are ways to clean many clothes without dry cleaning. In my experience you can get away with washing most things if you do it right!

Dry cleaning is done with a chemical. This chemical remains in the machine for usually a week before it gets changed because it gets so dirty. That is what is used to clean your clothes with. Sometimes your clothes will actually be dirtier when you get them back fom the dry cleaners. If you've ever had a wedding dress dry cleaned it always takes several weeks because they wait till they change their chemicals. I never use them. You could wash your owne shirts and then send them out to be ironed.

I have a lot of crisp cotton shirts in light colors. These are my favorite things to wear, and depending on the maker, not cheap. We live in the south, and perspiration stains ruin them easily. Yes, I know all about baking soda and lemon, but the cleaner does a great job, without my elbow grease. For some items, I just think the money is worth it.
Yes, they definitely look newer longer, to me.

Your dry cleaners used a sturdy low priced solvent. i ought to take the garments again and *****. Take them to a diverse cleaners next time. dangle the garments outside to air out for awhile.
