How many of you think he got the job because he said "yes sir Mr. Jones" more than any of the other candidates? Is this team doomed for the next few season's?

I think he got the job because defense was the weakness last year, and the majority of nfl g.m's believe phillips its the best 3-4 mind in football right now, Singletary doesnt know the 3-4 neither does Rivera or Turner, Caldwell or Gibbs, but he did probably say "yes sir" more often, but thats because he is a good ol' boy from texas

In two seasons as the Chargers’ defensive coordinator, Wade Philips has delivered outstanding results.

He is the architect of San Diego’s 3-4 defense, and last season that defense led the NFL against the run, holding opponents to a mere 84.3 yards per game. Two years ago - Phillips’ first in San Diego - the Bolts were even stingier, allowing only 81.7 yards per game to rank third in the league. Phillips’ defense is centered around defensive tackle Jamal Williams, who was selected to play in his first-career Pro Bowl following the 2005 season.

One of the outstanding feats of Phillips’ defense in 2005 was holding three different opponents to less than 40 yards rushing: Oakland (39 yards), Philadelphia (24) and Indianapolis (24). That hadn’t happened in San Diego since 1965 and it was only the third time it occurred in team history.

The Bolts’ aggressive defense also cranked out 46 sacks last season, its most since 1992. The Chargers and Indianapolis tied for the fifth-most sacks in the league. Rookies Shawne Merriman and Luis Castillo combined for 13.5 sacks in 2005, the most by any rookie duo in the NFL.

I dont care what the coach's name is but with a resume like that ill take it, also retreads are bad? Like Dungy, Billichick, Gruden and Vermiel? retread have only won 6 of the past 8 super bowls, who wants to win a super bowl?

Jerry Jones is stuck somewhere in 1997. He is hiring coaches that have absolutly no future, no longer than 3 years. I believe that Rivera or Singletary should have gotten the job, both of these guys are young and energetic coaches that players would love to play for. Phillips seems like an old school guy thatmight not be able to control the big Egos. If TO is with the team, this season expect him to clash more than once with Phillips.

I don't get it. Jerry Jones has gone MAD! Wade struggled in Denver with a good team. he failed miserably in Buffalo. What qualifies HIM for a 3rd chance? This may end up being the worst hiring of a coach in Dallas ever.

Good luck with Bums son. I got a chance to see him a couple of years in Buffalo. Get ready for "okay TO you want the ball, Romo just throw the ball to TO. Okay any question?"

Buffalo had an up and coming team b4 Phillips took over. Ever since he lost the music city miracle Buffalo has been "Buffalo", the doormat of the AFC East. That is where the cowgirls are headed.

I wont even try and explain what could have gotten him te job. Team doomed for the next few seasons, lets see if this guy has learned anything from his history. I doubt that he has so get use to having high draft picks wasted.

ESPN reported the same thing on their website.

I think you nailed it : he's a yes man, and that's what Jerry Jones wants. You're also about to see the inmates take over the asylum.

If he even gets them to the playoffs during his stay in Dallas, I will be stunned.

Wade Phillips sucks so bad as a head coach I don't think Al Davis would hire him. Has Jerry become senile too, or just stupid?

He has been a head coach before so he seems qualified for the job

He is a good defensive coach but a head coach able to control T.O., I don't think so. Either he will try to get T.O. traded or he will be fired in his first season.
