I'm 17 weeks pregnant with my second child (a girl). During the first blood tests I got (I was about five weeks along), my TSH level was 75 (it should have been under 5.5). It has gone down and is normal now, but I'm just wondering if any mothers out there have had hypothyroidism and have given birth to babies without learning disabilities or health problems... I need some reassurance.

Thanks!

Hi Dawn,
I just thought I would tell you that I have five beautiful, healthy, amazing children and I have been hypothyroid since I was about 16. I had my first child at 23 (he is 29, owns his own business and is also a published author)....I won't bore you with all my bragging about my kids! lol....I have a gorgous 25 year old son, an equally gorgeous 23 year old daughter (working on her masters degree....sorry that just slipped out! lol) my other son is 19 and also in college. My little girl is 12 and since she is adopted I can not take credit for how beautiful she is!!
Seriously, there have never been any problems that stemmed from my hypothyroidism. I am RH negative and my husband was RH positive, that one caused a few little ripples in things but no big deal.
I hope that you are planning to breastfeed your precious little new arrival. Next to life itself that is the greatest gift you can give your baby. Not that it has anything to do with your thyroid, it is just a little something that I feel compelled to mention. They are finding out more and more about the almost magical benefits of the the colostrum. Even scientists are using words like "magical" to try to describe the attributes of colostrum. We have still not come close to duplicating breastmilk but no one has even tried to duplicate colostrum! They know better!
Take care honey and I hope I have made you feel better in regard to the hypothyroidism!
I hope that you enjoy this blessed time of waiting for your new little one to join your family.
Love and Blessings to you all.

I've given birth to 4 kids with no health problems. I have suffered with Hypothyroidism that I know of since my 2nd child was born. In fact, 3 months before I got pregnant with my 4th child, I had my thyroid removed completely. That pregnancy went well and she is now a healthy 26 month old. I was prescribed Synthroid to take for the rest of my life as my thyroid supplement. I'm pregnant with my 5th child now; due in Sept. and my synthroid will have to be adjusted according to my pregnancy. The dosage will go down since the baby will be developing his/her own thyroid.

We often see hypothyroid symptoms totally reversed when commits to a plan that supports balance through nutrition and daily self-care. Learn here https://tr.im/AhT9d

Consume foods naturally high in B vitamins, such as whole grains, nuts, and seeds, and iodine (fish, seaweed, vegetables and root vegetables).
Exercise daily, at least 30–60 minutes per day, 4–5 times a week.
Practice deep breathing and other techniques that trigger the “relaxation response” – such as meditation and guided visualization.

I haven't heard that the mother having hypo causes baby to have learning disabilites as long as it is well controlled by an endocrinologist. I have been on Synthroid for a few years now and since I've been pg I had my doses increased several times to make sure the baby gets enuf 2. Ur baby will be fine just have DRs keep close eye on ur thyroid levels.

My friend treated the disease by using natural ways through a e book which provide healthy diet and suitable exercise so you can refer to here for more information: http://treatment-hypothyroidism.keysolve.net

Treatment for underactive thyroid involving a combination of levothyroxine and a hormone called triiodothyronine (T3) is not usually recommended because studies have found no evidence that this is more effective. There are also concerns that taking both these hormone-replacement medications may increase your risk of serious side effects such as an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) and weak bones (osteoporosis).
