Yes the tail is one good way to sexing your red ear sliders, but not the only way. First of all you won't be able to see the differences until sexual maturity which can take 2-5 years in males (about 4 inches in length) and females can take 5-7 years to reach full maturity (6-7 inches in length). When they are mature, male sliders claws are much longer on their front feet than females. The tail of the male is much longer and thicker. The cloaca is located farther from the body in males and males also have a more slightly concave (curved inward) plastron.

Red-eared Terrapin males have elongated, tapering tails and elongated front claws which are used to stimulate the female during courtship. Females have short claws and short tails and tend to be 20% larger than males.

Look at it's tail. If it's a female the tail will be short and stubby. A male's is longer and thinner.

i don't know about your kind of turtle in particular..but talking about turtles in general, you'll know a guy turtle if its "chest" is curved..when it's really flat, it's a She...
