I bought a computor from a boot sale, but on entering the computer and changing and deleting already entered information, I found that the computer was last owned by a local authority and found that I cannot alter anything or put my copy (legal) of XP onto it as it comes up enter administrator password, when contacted local authority with computor number on side I was informed it came from an office that closed down 12 months ago and could not help me with my enquiry as each office had its seperate IT administrater and could not supply with their name as that person left their employment. PLEASE HELP.

Reinstall Windows XP from SCRATCH. There are many advantages from doing a reinstallation. Other problems may exist in this system, and you are better off starting over.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Okay, there's a way by not reinstalling windows.

Download this software, http://optusnet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/ophcrack/ophcrack-livecd-1.1.3.iso about 462MB

Then burn in to a CD and you place in into the CDrom drive of the computer and restart the computer and boot from the CD. It will decrypt the password for you and you can use the previous log in information.

I lost my password to another account on this same computer I'm using now and I had alot of files in there. I was lucky to have found this software, that really had my eyes pop out. Didn't expect it to work on my 16 character long password, consisting of numbers and alphabets(CAPS and small), and it worked fast!
