The median is the line segment that connects a vertex (corner) with the midpoint of the opposite side. The long stick on a diamond shaped kite is clearly the median (also the altitude, the angle bisector, and the perpendicular bisector) of the two triangles formed by the shorter stick, but those two triangles are congruent only if the kite is a also a rhombus (all sides congruent).
