i have a huge fear of texture. i cant live near trees because tree bark gives me nightmares. i received a present from my mom, it was a patio stepping stone of a butterfly. the design on it's wings looked like honeycombs and i was so freaked out that i couldnt bring it home. i gave it to a sellsman that walked by selling vacuums. it is starting to get annoying because i cant even eat hamburger. i understand some of my fear because i grew up homeless for a good portion of my life and we had to eat things others threw away. a lot of times these things were buggy and i now just cant stand anything with texture where bugs can hide.... even if it is a textured ceiling. am i a freak? what is my malfunction?

You could have been scared by something with texture when you were very young or even in a dream. I guess eating buggy food would do that. Confronting your fears however is the only way to overcome them. Make yourself realize it's OK now and the bad times are gone. Keep telling yourself that.

Having a phobia doesn't make you a freak. Fear of textures is a little odd, but there's nothing wrong with it. You don't have a malfunction either so get that out of your head as well. It's a clinical condition with a deeply rooted base from your childhood. Those are the hardest to get rid of and need a psychologist specializing in phobia related disorders. Phobia's can't be deprogrammed or sedated with pills, hypnotherapy or just simply talking to your friends. You need to talk with someone that can pinpoint what exactly happened, and can council you for a time to help you deal better with your problem. You won't ever get completely over it, but maybe you'll be able to live a life without it controlling your everyday life.

Well, definitely you have an issue going on. Nothing to be ashamed of though, we all have them. The thing is, your issue is disrupting your everyday life, and that is when it is time for help.
You will be amazed how you can change the thinking your brain goes through.Whether by drugs, therapy, education or even time, you can conquer it. You may never completely get away from it, but you can control it a lot better with help. Right now "it" is controlling you. You are not a freak. You just need a handle on it, and personally I think you have a great start, one because you realize why it might be so, and two because you are reaching out.

A person can be phobic of anything - one of the most common is cotton wool. You can get rid of it by consulting a hypnotherapist or/and NLP practitioner.
