With the recent news about police not being tough enough on rape, questioning the victims' and their friends' sexual habits, etc. is it worth reporting one that happened 3 years ago?

"Rape prosecutions 'must improve'
Ministers have long been concerned about low rape conviction rates
Police and prosecutors are failing to implement measures to boost the rape conviction rate, watchdogs have warned.
The police and the Crown Prosecution Service watchdogs said more effort should be made to build stronger cases.
Their report says too many rape claims in England and Wales are wrongly dismissed as unfounded.
Only 5% of reported rapes end in a conviction. The director of public prosecutions says he is "determined" to improve the way rape cases are handled."

yes its worth reporting it no matter how long ago it happened cos he may have done it before also your statement will be kept on file forever so if anyone in the future is raped by him and they report it in the same area as you then the police will have it there on record, its only if your rapist moves to another area that police wont have it on record.
it is really worth it no matter how you hear police treat rape victims, also things have improved allot over the last few years, reporting it could give you piece of mind and it will be a weight lifted. as long as you stay strong and no your rights, (i think now you don't even have to tell them any of your past sexual history but im not certain). i promise reporting this to police wont be as bad as you think, just be prepared to have to go in to all the sordid details of what happened which will of course be hard, and if the police are at all at any time rude you can make an official complaint against them, its what i am planning on doing at the moment with the police who dealt with me, but then i reported mine 5 years ago when things were allot different and police were even less trained in these matters.
good luck and if you need more advice call your local rape crisis for help and support

If you believe it is than it is. There will be tough questions for the victim and the other. It will open old wounds but may save other people from going through a rape. Without knowing the whole story no one can give you an answer. You need to decide for yourself. Best wishes

Yes, always report it. I know how hard this can be but take someone with you if you need support. I was on a jury at the Old Bailey a few years ago for a rape case that had happened some years before and he was found guilty.

i don't think the police are like that, maybe defense attorneys are. In a case like that you have to be strong, and willing to re-live this horrible ordeal in court for months. Unfortunately, after such a long period of time, evidence disappears, witnesses forget , and it becomes a case of your word against his. I doubt the lives of your friends will be an issue - why would it. Good luck on your decision.

Yes. If the case is strong enough then the police can still get him. Also it will frighten the life out of him. Go for it and the best of luck.

It is always worth while to make an individual pay for such an act.
However it would be very difficult to prosecute without any physical evidence.

You have to follow your own conscious, if it were me I would report it to get a rapist off of the streets, however I would not try to hold you accountable if you didn't as I understand it can be quite humiliating. Good luck in your decision.
