Only a very few people influence films, but films influence many mor people.
There is the people in the story. Director and other film maker types.
But in one showing at multiple theaters it can affect 100X more people that made it. How many people saw Lord of the rings? millions
How many people wrote created and filmed it?
I would say in the hundreds.

Both ways. Films with social background of a community or religion influence the entire people. People try to imitate the film heroes, who in turn imitate social reformists.
