Well, I did move to a remote island (Bali) and though I did hand-wash clothes for a short while at the very beginning because the laundry at the village were I lived had no idea how to separate colours ;-), now I have an automatic washing machine that does the job for me :-)
I like to manually grind spices at home and I manually make my own coconut milk though!

yes many things, billy longs to move to the island of YAHOO past when the message boards ruled and answers P & S was a cool unheard of place without all the clowns that populate it now....

Well, it depends on which island you are on. 'Remote' isn't synonymous with 'uninhabited', here, so there should be a lot of remote islands with electricity and civilization.
