Ireland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Philippines, plenty of Catholic countries used to have a lot of poverty as well, you know. When the politicians and the priests combine to the suppress the people, poverty results. Most of the western countries have lost the shackles of religion and many Catholic countries that were dictatorships are now more democratic. When the Muslims see though the trickery perpetrated on them by church and state, if they are ever given the chance that is, they too will start to reap the benefits of not having a church to support.

It has nothing to with their being Muslim, and everything to do with their systems of government. That is to say the Oil money in many gulf states is controlled by a small number of sheiks, Emirs and kings. In Kuwait they have profit sharing among all Kuwaiti citizens, but in Yemen all oil revenues go to the government. The poverty in many muslim nations is due to the fact that they hire a lot of third country nationals (Pakistanis, Indians, Filipinos etc.) to do much of the work and pay them extremely low wages. I would also say that many muslim nations have had opressive governments in the recent past and are still attempting to shake off the effects this has had on their economies. Places like Dubai have done this quite successfully, and Kuwait is coming around, but many still have a long way to go.

Thats a bit of a generalisation, I'm pretty sure that places like Kuwait and Jordan are quite wealthy. We all have our poverty, it's just some poverty is more overt than others.

What an outrageous sweeping generalisation. Since the biggest oil producers are all muslims I would imagine they have their fair share of wealth.
