A R Rahman is no doubt one of the most versatile musicians on industry. But he is not the King of Indian Music. You can go back to history and since ages India has produced many great musicians in different centuries. India is the only land where flow of music has yields either rain or lit lamps. Different Ragas have generated innumerable verses since mankind found language to communicate. Almost every century has seen variety of aspects of music and musicians. This all has sum up today to India's latest music industry and its untouchable height. A R Rahman is amongst those many great musicians who can sing very good. But certainly he has far more to do to be one of the jewels of all time greats Crown. Arguably at this point of time he is the best in business but still forget movies and he is nothing to likes of Pandit Jasraj or even Ustad Bismillahkhan. Even his predecessors were legends like Shankar Jaikishan, Naushad, R D Burman, S D Burman and all. So he is definitely not the king but always one of the most important convoy of whole army.

There may be one or two numbers from him that are good but have you listened to music composers before him?
Names like Hemant Kumar, Shankar Jaikishan, C Ramchandra, Roshan, Naushad, Ghulam Mohamed etc may be have either escaped your attention or simply you may have not heard or known them or even you do not bother to turn back and listened to them.
What people listen nowadays do not want to hear what has been done before---and I am sure that the above mentioned music composers have done a remarkable job and also their lyricists which are incomparable to what we are getting to day ...some are merely loud noise and mostly rubbish... no wonder some are remixing the old songs ...but even then cannot match the originals.
