People are usually desperate for domestic cleaners if that's what you want to do. From my personal experience I wouldn't employ a cleaner if they weren't able to give me references so perhaps you could approach friends and family first to see if they would let you clean for them - if you are lucky they will spread how wonderful you are and by word of mouth you will get more business. I also think you should take out insurance against breakages in people's homes etc. You could advertise in the local newspapers, newagents windows, supermarket notice boards or even produce flyers to put through doors of houses in the area you would like to clean. Think through the service you want to provide, just cleaning or cleaning and ironing or even more. Check what other people charge and price your own services competitively. Good luck.

first and formost,do you have any qualifacations for cleaning?is it domestic or industrial.have you gained a health and safety certificate for working in the cleaning business.have you gained a certificate for cemical solutions, this is just the begining the law regarding cleaning has become very strict now.
you even have to have a test for using a vaccum cleaner,i done all these tests and dcouldnt believe it when i was told that companys want to see certificates now, this lowers insurance claims..cleaning is a great business but there is alot to do on the training side before you can approach companies..try local pubs and offices they might not ask for certificates.
good luck

For starters, clean your desk off. Clean your pc. Go to Yahoo free websites and build one for free. Start with a name. Look up your local Chamber of Commerce and ask them for their free disk of all the local business in the area. Go to a local store buy good cleaning products. You'll need mops, brooms, sponges, rags, lint free cloths, Clean your current vacum! Or invest in an industrial vacum. Dont use anything of the customers. Organize it all! Another important item I might add for attention to detail is to make your self a badge complete with picture, company logo and address and a number if they think your not doing your job even if you are the owner. Alot of companies are impressed with that type of security. Good luck to you and I hope I help you to choose a direction.

Make business cards and a price leaflet, send these or deliver by hand to office buildings and warehouses(all you can find). A lot of places have agencies cleaning for them so try and find out what they charge so you can under cut them. You can bump up your price later.
If you have to lie about other contracts you have with other companies to impress.
Good luck

Commercial or Domestic? If it's domestic then an ad in your local paper or post cards in shop windows would be a good place to start. If you are looking for commercial work then it's lots of time on the phone and going to visit people.

You will need to set things up and advertise, building up some form of reputation and also approach companies and ask them when the existing contracts are due for tendering again, then you will need to be able to submit a tender at that time for consideration

You can also try builders - clean their models. Visit the model, be prepared to give an estimate by fax or mail, get the contact info. Good Luck!
