We already have toll roads.
With regard to paying tax you have two choices: US tax levels and US style public services, or European tax levels and European style public services.
I reckon it is almost a certainty that whatever party eventually replaces Labour in government will also introduce toll roads and road pricing. They just won't admit to it yet, because they want your vote.

He wont have to if they get us all to fit the latest version' of sat nav., they will then be able to charge you every time you take your car off the drive, so toll roads will be pointless, you will just get a bill drop on your mat once a month.

This tax is vital to pay for the improvement of our inadequate motorway system. It will also pay for my retirement fundand for my peerage.

This is a classic way politicians say they are not raising your taxes...they just bump up user fees and other methods to generate revenues. Heaven forbid politicians would work on ways to keep government spending responsible and within its means.
