An umbra is a shadow. Can you think what big thing in the sky might cast a shadow?

Yes, it is the moon. When the moon gets between the earth and the sun, it casts a shadow called an umbra. The people in the shadow will see the sun blotted out by the moon for a while. This is called an eclipse.
