So I have Limewire Pro on my computer, and recently I received and email from my university. It was about copyright infringement and how 200 students were kicked off the internet for 2 weeks for illegally downloading music. And we need Cisco Clean Access Agent to connect to the internet. And I have Peerguardian and can clearly see that the university is "watching" me. So I obviously paid for mines since it's pro, but I am scared of getting kicked off. Are there any security-related programs that anyone can recommend so that my activity is not monitored? Or, any websites where I can find singles? Or is Peerguardian sufficient protection?

You need to worry about more than getting kicked off the network - check the college's rules and make sure you won't get kicked out of college for this.

Keep in mind that you paid for Limewire Pro, which gives you access. You didn't pay for any files, which means that if you use Limewire Pro to download music without paying for the music (or movies, software or TV shows) then you're guilty of copyright infringement. The RIAA watches college pretty closely, and considering that illegal downloading is a threat to the college, the network staff watches traffic closely as well. Your activity will be monitored when you're connected to the school's network. Trying to circumvent this may lead to being cut off the network or disciplinary action. The safest course of action is to simply not break the law. If you're going to download music, download it from a legal site like iTunes.

The only guaranteed way to circumvent the university being able to spy on you when surfing from a campus connection is to pay for your own off-site dial-up connection. They can't track computer data sent over a phone line if it doesn't go through their own modems.

But the simplest way would be to ask them if a paid Limewire Pro subscription would be an issue in terms of copyright infringement. If it is, you might consider instead getting a paid subscription to a download service that is fully aboveboard and confirmed 100% legal. Limewire is a quasi-legal service in that they try to pass their own legal responsibilities to prevent use of their system for illegal music sharing onto the users, which is a trick that Napster once tried and failed to defend themselves with when the RIAA took them to court. Now it's no longer a free service.

There is no software program to prevent other host from monitoring your activity...

However, when you download a song, your IP shows on the host site, then the host report you... Once your are banned, you may never again use that site, unless you change your IP address... But the next time you are caught will result in major depression.

try some proxy site (like kproxy.com)and from there you can start searching for downloadable music(like mp3000.net).
