Does anyone know of a good science project for a first grader? My niece is having a science fair next week. Do you know of a good idea and where I can find the instructions?

What about something simple like getting a strip of paper about an inch wide, and drawing a line in texta across it. Dip it in water till the line isn't far above the water line, and as the water soaks up the paper you can see the colour run. It's supposed to show what colours the texta is made from. Black shows up purple from memory. It was a long time ago though so try it first to see how it goes!

When my daughter was in first grade we did this with ice cubes. Use one glass of warm water and one with cold water drop one ice cube in each and see which melts faster we use a Polaroid camera to mark the progress of each cube. the project is done as soon as one of the cubes melt. time It out and write out times you checked each one.
