Here in California, it was kindergarden, Romper Room with Miss Nancy and her Magic Mirror, The Banana Splits, Black Beauty, The Hardy Boys mysteries, the penny candy counter at the grocery, much the same in many ways.
I remember my allowance, every Friday, which gave me the wonderful option of purchasing a comic for ten cents, with five cents left over for candy--bubble -gum balls, root-beer barrels, licorice whips---or a whole five-cent chocolate bar--Herseys, or Heath's with toffee. Sometimes the temptation would be too great, and I would opt for a Cadbury Milk Chocolate bar (ten cents) and a roll of perforated caps to load into my cowboy's pistol. A first-rate choc and a round hundred satisfying loud bangs from my trusty six-shooter, perfect contentment for an earlier and simpler time!

worzil gummidge, Pob (was thata welsh thing?) Will quack quack, number 73, T-Bag and the quest for (well, whatever she was questing for). (Shes in emmerdale now). Being told "yoo can play out till the street lights come on" "if you come in youre staying in" "go out and play" (No kid gets told that these days, they always have to play WITH something). Asking the cream man if he'd lend youa penny towards something then saying "i'll have a prenny bubbly please". Global hypercolour t-shirts, wincy willis, watching the birds at the start of TV-AM, The stuff that went hard when you put it on ice-cream. Fire-ball jawbreakers being banned from school. The muppet babies before going, going, going live! Your sister wearing coulots, sisters dancing to vanilla ice, Now 11, recording the charts and crying when Nick Berry was at No1 with "Every Loser wins" (or was that just me. Losing your glasses after you left them next to a goalpost, then telling your dad theyre "in my room somewhere", then actually spending hours looking round your room for something you know arent there, just to keep him off your back! kwik-save no-frills packets looking like the writing on the A-Team. Fake Bart-simpson t-shirts, the fella off the 7-up cans, Duck Hunt, rumours about girls/what happens if you pop a balloon near your face/the old man on the corner/the quiet female teacher with short hair/your uncle/dropping pennies off blackpool tower.
