I took (and passed) my second car test on Monday. I failed my first one. If you are good enough, you'll pass eventually. Some of it is down to the examiner on the day. I could tell my first examiner was going to fail me before we had even walked out of the centre as she was convinced that I wasn't exempt from the theory test as I already had a full motorcycle licence. After leaving me alone in the waiting room for over five minutes while she went to phone and check, my confidence was all shot to pieces. She sat in the car coughing her guts up throughtout the (obviously by now cut short) trip and was obviously not well, and I just KNEW she was going to fail me. I made a stupid error on the turn in the road mounting the kerb, but she had also failed me on my observations anyway by then. Even so, I kept driving and made the effort for the rest of the test.
By contrast, the guy for my second test never questioned my licence at all, was really friendly and made an effort to talk and put me at my ease. It was a far better drive, and I actually believed that I could pass this time and although I wasn't perfect, he did let a lot more things slide that my other examiner didn't. I was just unlucky on my first test having a bad examiner on a bad day, and there was not much I could have done about it. Sooner or later, everything will come together for you - they can't keep failing you. Chalk it down to experience and try again. You can have someone sitting in the back, but I think that would make me more nervous too!

Try and relax your test instructor will know your are nervous. If you are half way through performing a procedure and you start to panic dont be afraid to ask if you can stop, take a breather and re-do, the instructer would rather you get it right in a relaxed manner than rush it in a panic. Good Luck it will be easier than you think. Just remember the little points:-
Feed the steering wheel
dont rest your hand on the gear stick
dont gase into the rear view mirror
and try and keep up with the flow of traffic
Relax

Remember the driving examiner is not there to fail you.
Relax and enjoy the experience, if you pass it will be a rush that you will never forget.
The hard bit comes the first time you are out on your own in the car, it will make the test feel easy.

Read over your drivers manual tonight and get a good nights rest. Tomorrow during your test just relax. Remember to buckle up as soon as you get into the car and and be sure to be looking in your mirrors and when you come to stop signs and red lights do not stop to far up to the intersection always stop before the sign or light. Before the walk way across the street. Good luck tomorrow I hope you pass!!

Remember to just drive the car as you have done with your instructor.. Concentrate on the job in hand and focus on the road. Why be nervous as the worst thing that can happen is to fail. You will not be killed and you will still be you. If you are really nervous it could be that you are not really as competent as you should be with your driving. Prove me wrong.

If you have time before the test, have someone go out with you to practice the things you missed last time. Otherwise, just try to spend time visualizing what to do in you mind. Try not to have any caffeine before the test. Tell me what city you're in so I can make sure I stay off the side walks ;-) Just try to relax.

Imagine you've passed and that you're just giving the examiner a lift somewhere.
