For info, I'm in London in the UK where we don't get much snow, so it's a nice surprise for us.

I don't even know where you are. I just know that I live on the west Coast where people are crazy in the snow.

When I grew up, a few feet could fall over night and school still was in progress. I never missed a day to snow because schools did not close for such things.

We had 3 snowstorms in December, more than I have seen in almost 40 years here and each time, the city closed down entirely. There were only a few inches, maybe a foot here and there. Everything was closed for at least 2 weeks in total. Even pre Christmas shopping was halted for 6 days! Car accidents were just so many that the insurance companies are still trying to catch up on claims two months later.

Meanwhile, teachers and kids go tobogganing near here on a great hill that slides down towards the ocean.

Have a blast.. a winter blast!

I don't work in a school, but I'm off work today because my kids school is shut because of the snow!

I'm in Essex and most the schools are shut here, been told that its because most the kids have a car/bus drive (we live in outer villages), however, we only have about 3" snow and the roads are passable so I don't know why - and I have friends who live near the sea and theres just a dusting there and the schools are still shut.

It is very OTT - my work are not very impressed - but my kids are loving it and have built a huge snowman!

i don't work in a school but the teachers i have seen out and about today look thirilled, and it's half term where we are next week, so the holidays have come early.
Here in Milton Keynes, in many places i have recorded 7inches of snow, and a mininun of 3.5inches on the roads.

How is it that every other profession managed to struggle to work except for teachers? Not enough holidays or study days? Or an early start to the latest half term nonsense?
