Is it a legitimate possibility to make smoking a religion?

Question

Smokers could then legally light up, by using the burning and smoking of a cigarette as an offering to the Tobacco God. We could then have our own prayer rooms in which to offer this sacrifice. This is not meant to be blasphemous and I apologise to anyone offended by this question.

The way I see it, criticizing the ideas of the religion is intellectually honest and legitimate. Criticizing the people who follow that religion isn't. For example, pointing out a contradiction in a religious text is honest criticism, but calling someone an idiot because they believe that contradiction is flaming. As far as respecting the opposite viewpoint, I don't think it should be afforded any more respect than a political viewpoint.

Well, you'd have to generate some pretty convincing doctrine to call it a religion. Religious Icon like the Marlboro Man and Joe the Camel wouldn't work, I think.

How ever, in the UK, there is a Jedi temple. 4th largest religion there, so I've heard. It might work there.
