A much easier way to do it is this: Open the Folder with the files in it and go to the Toolbar at the top of the page. Click File, and send to Zip File. When the contents are INSIDE of the Zip File, Open the Zip File and go to File again, and Click it. You will HAVE an Option to Add a PASSWORD to it. There you go. practice on a useless document before you try it to get the hang of it. It is very easy to do. If you need any help please let me know. My email address is in my Avatar.

Mmmm for Windows with NTFS, you can specify the permission for a folder to a specified user account only. I'd tried it in Win2003 -It worked.... Even administrators cannot access my folder... but still I think they are ways people can impersonate or somehow get into the folder from the Administrator's Account by deleting my user account, or someother ways (haven't fully tested yet).
There's also a special program called "Folder Lock" to provide password and restrict access to users who does not have the correct password. It has free trial :
http://www.snapfiles.com/goto.php?id=108388&t=94623466&d=7112484&gourl=/features/folderlock-704-454256.php
Of course, this program work for windows only.... As for linux, I don't think its quite hard to do that. You can try to find the commands by searching from Google.

Folder Lock is fast file-security software that can password-protect, lock, hide, and encrypt any number of files, folders, drives, pictures, and documents in seconds. Locked files are undeletable, unrenamable, unmovable, hidden, and inaccessible. You can lock, scramble, or encrypt depending on speed and security. Folder Lock is fully portable, so you can protect your files on USB flash drives, disks, CD-RWs, notebooks, and hard disks, and it doesn't require installation on another PC.
Folder Lock protects files in Windows, DOS, and Safe modes, even when you change your OS or boot from a disk. Folder Lock doesn't let you delete its own program folder, and it can't be uninstalled without the correct password. Additional options include Stealth Mode, Hacker Attempt Monitoring, Shred files, AutoLock, Auto Shutdown PC, Lock your PC, Erase PC tracks, 256-bit Blowfish Encryption and Context Menu in Explorer. Version 5.7 is Windows Vista compatible, allows different users of the same computer to have different security measures for their files and folders.
