Ancient Egyptian literature is characterized by a wide diversity subject matter and dates from the Old Kingdom into the Greco-Roman period.
The religious literature of ancient Egypt includes hymns to the gods, mythological and magical texts, and an extensive collection of mortuary texts, these are know as the Book of the Dead
The range of secular literature includes stories; instructive literature, known as wisdom texts; poems; biographical and historical texts; and scientific treatises, including mathematical and medical texts. Some of the stories include elements of mythology and may owe much to an oral story telling tradition.

The following are examples of these are simple stories form Egypt that have survived thousands of years.
Cinderella - This story of Cinderella where her name is Rhodopis is the oldest version of the story.
Crocodile - Hamut and Nekatu the two children, and the baby crocodile.
Doomed Prince - A Prince fated by the gods to die by the Snake, the Crocodile or the Dog.
Journey to Land of Dead - The journeys of Se-Osiris as he takes his father to the Underworld and back.
Osiris - This Legend is the most Famous Ancient literature myth.
Proverbs - The kingdom of heaven is within you; and whosoever shall know himself shall find it.
Sealed Letter - Se Osiris reads the sealed letter to prove his magic.
Turquoise Amulet - Pharaoh Snefru's trip down the Nile with the maiden who lost her amulet.

Well, you could explore the use of Tarot cards as either symbols or plot tools in literature, I guess. I can't think of anything off hand to point you toward though. Let me think a moment. ETA: I think both Yeats and Eliot used Tarot symbolism. Maybe Kafka too. I don't know if this was the kind of answer you were looking for...

The underlying meaning of the book of Osiris and the birth of Horus (what's is it called? ah, Book of the Dead) is a Self-Manifestation... a self-empowerment. To invoke greatness in one's self. Or, maybe that is just my interpretation...
