What different genres do you like, give a few examples of artists you like from different genres i'e Pop, Hip Hop, R &B, Rock, etc. I think its such a shame that so many people narrow down their musical taste to 1 type of music.

My musical taste is quite eclectic. From hard dance to Hot Chip, indie rock 'n' roll to minimal tech house - everything in-between & a few either side!

I agree with you on your point of it being a shame that people only listen to 1 genre & that's it - it's especially annoying when people won't go to a particular night 'cos they dont like the music' yet have never even heard that particular kind of music. I mean i dont like every genre of music, (I hate new rap type stuff - eminem, fifty cent etc i just dont get it.) but I'll always give stuff a listen & then decide.

Faves include the Go! Team, Jamie T, Killers, Razorlight, Jurassic Five, Hot Chip, Bloc Party, Daft Punk, The Streets, Air, Klaxons, Basement Jaxx, Beastie Boys, Stone Roses, Oasis, Happy Mondays, Depeche Mode, Jose Gonzalez, Jay-Z, Belle & Sebastien, Nightmares on Wax, Royksopp, Janis Joplin, DJ's such as Carl Cox, Erol Alkan, Filthy Rich & Matt Cooper, Too Many DJ's . . . . . I could go on, but i think you get the picture!

My music collection literally goes from Abba to Zodiac Mindwarp and The Love Reaction with all points inbetween.
When I was younger my tastes were really restricted (had to have guitars and be loud, nothing electronic, even synths were a bit suspect) but now there are only two types of music-good and bad- and thats all down to tastes.
I think its down to having a wider social group than the clique from school and being exposed to different influences.
Everyone has that guilty secret album lurking at the back of the shelf (not telling what mine is) that is out of sync with the rest of your taste.

I like loads of different music,
ranging from Bowling for Soup, Def Leppard, 60's music, New Found Glory, Girls Aloud (*Shame*), Bryan Adams, Letters to Cleo, Hinder, Lionel Richie (yeah yeah I know), Placebo, Greenday, Frank Sinatra, Less Than Jake, Foo fIghter, Spiderbait, Usher, Beyonce, Counting Crows, Skunk Anansie, and loads more. I think thats pretty varied.

I know if I like someones music or not, without sticking to a genre.

I listen to Classic FM every day, I just love classical music but I also listen to Smooth FM (used to be called Jazz FM) because Jazz is another of my favourite genres. I don't like Pop music or Heavy Metal but I love the old style Genesis (don't know what that would come under).

Popular music itself used to be more eclectic, and it wasn't so uncommon for bands to dabble in different styles between songs. That sort of pop has been dead since the late '80s, and genre music has picked up the splintered pieces.

Unfortunately musical eclecticism got incorporated into a pretentious Yuppie ethic, and thus it became a symbol of air-headed pseudo-intellecualism, but it doesn't have to be that way.

Yep totally! I absolutely love XFM and I also adore Classic FM... Artists I like include Justin Timberlake, N*E*R*D*, Pharrell Williams, the Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Nelly Furtado… the list is endless… My musical taste varies- that’s the best way of explaining it!

I completely agree with you about it being 'such a shame that so many people narrow down their musical taste to 1 type of music'. Its sad when people ask you about what your musical tastes are and when you tell them, they look at you as if you're a weirdo... Dunno, maybe its just me... lol...

I'm a multi genre music fan. I like Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party and loads of other stuff. Half of the music that I like is because of my sister. I love Asher Lane's song New Days! It's the song in the Nivea advert. It's a really good song.
