Sweetheart, read the paper and learn that there is a thing called "Global Warming" going on.
For many reasons, most of them man made, the climate of the planet is changing. The ice floes in the Arctic are melting and the polar bears are drowning. Houses by the ocean up in Alaska and Norther Canada are sliding into the waters as the ice below, which has been ice for thousands of years, is melting. The list goes on.
In the meantime, the climate of the world is rising. Even a few degrees is enough to cause radical change. The oceans will rise and many lowland places will be under water. The Netherlands, Kerala in India, Manhattan, pretty any city that is close to water level.
Where some places were wonderful farmlands, now there are droughts. Australia, parts of India, the Canadian prairie, and many more. Be prepared for more diseases in the Northern Hemisphere because insects which could not survive our cold, are now able to live here. The Pine Beetle thrives now. Along with drought, many great forests will fall to this insect.

Get educated on this topic. It is effecting your life as you already know. Many say Global Warming has not been proven or is a natural event in Nature. Many disagree and claim we humans are responsible with our cars and all the things we throw into the atmosphere.
Educate yourself and learn more. Learn what you can do. And do not buy into the fear factor they are trying to sell us all.

I don't know.. it's really strange. I'm really wondering the same thing.
Here in America, the temperatures in the colder states are dropping lower than they ever have before.
... For some reason, California is excluded, though.

Don't know, but if this global warming keeps temperatures below 0 for much longer, I'm moving south.
