Have healthy foods in the house. Get rid of all the soda. Fresh veggies and fruits for snacking. Get her involved in sports, such as swimming, basketball, volleyball, anything. Have her play outside.

Talk to your family doctor. They might have some exercise ideas, or refer you to a local nutritionist or physical trainer. A young child's future health and well being are well worth a office call.

Thanks for seeing the problem and wanting to help.

Just buy healthy food to keep in your house and do not have junk food laying around. The rest of the family is going to have to deal with no sugars or treats because having them around is bad for your nine year old and probably the whole family. The best diet is fruits a veggies along with fish, poultry, and pork, some red meat. Do not fry any foods, use only Virgin olive oil.

Your nine year old will eat what's in the house. He or she may throw a fit because all the goodies aren't around but he will eat. He may try to guilt you and go on a hunger strike but you need to be the adult and not let this kid control you. It would be really good if the whole family ate this way. When you buy groceries look at the ingredients on the boxes, try to stay away from process foods. Cut way down on pasta and white foods. Start eating wheat and grain breads.

There is a doctor that was on Oprah, his name was Dr. Oz. He has a great book discussing all the info I gave you. His book is pretty cheap. I suggest you get it. And I suggest you go through your kitchen and get rid of the junk.

As for exercise just start out walking together after dinner or at a time that works for you. Then you could join the local YMCA and get a family membership there.

please don't tell her she is overweight...that will make her feel like ****... i wouldn't worry about it too much being that she is just nine years old unless she is extremely overweight..if she is you could just have her eat healthy and you should do it to that way she doesn't feel ostracized give her fruits and veggies as snacks and you should go out and walk with her and play with her... i cant see making a kid work out because kids are so active as it is...well they should be anyway at least they used to be... but if you feel she needs to work out go out and play games with her and walk or run with her dont make her do it all by herself...and once again please dont draw attention to the fact that she is overweight she probably feels bad enough about it as it is without her mom saying things to her about it as well
