There's a lot of publicity at the moment about the words in rap music. I remember my parents not being too happy about the langauge and words in some of the heavy metal music I played.

I wasn't stopped from listening, they knew this would make the whole scene more attractive. My father did point out that if any time my behaviour deteriorated, there would be no more heavy metal.
One day, he said, I quite like that; I was horrified, my father and I liking the same music;-]
I'm not sure the words of music are a problem, it's more a way of expressing frustration...
What do you think?

Hi micky,
yes, I've heard about grime, I have yet to grasp the difference in the two kinds of music.
I have an open mind about everything and don't get uptight about words. I worry if it encourages violence. However,I think that comes from some other problem within society.
Many thanks for your answer...

Hi Beeny,
I get your point, but by questioning something, it makes us think about it

I am listening to some rap, just to see what I think of it and the words, so far, I'm not alarmed by it. I am alarmed by societies attitude to youngsters. They are not all bad. I work with students, I love their high spirits. However, some adults see it as threatening... Sad really!

The people I know who listen to heavy metal are well adjusted adults who contribute a lot to society. It doesn't seem to have damaged them ( well may be their ears);-] I think that will be the same with any kind of music.
It can express anger in a way people will listen to you.

Hi billthean,

I agree with what you say about the words to music.
About crossing the road, did you really want to get to the other side;-)?
Thanks for answering.

Oh, who cares?

Music is music, whether it's mindless, bubblegum pop or challenging, jazz instrumentals.

I grew up listening to Ozzy, Slayer, NWA, AC/DC, Naughty by Nature, etc. All of the lyrical baddies of the 80s and 90s.

Guess what? I'm a married, Father of two, with a nice house and a good job and a lot of good friends and am generally living a happy life.

I don't worship Satan, or do drugs, or slap women and call em' bitches and hoes. I don't bite the heads off small rodents and I have never, nor will I ever bust a cap in someone's a$s.

The bottom line is there are way more influential things out there than song lyrics that'll cause a teen to stray down a bad path in life. The first and most powerfull being the example parents set for their own kids on how to live a full, and successful life.

probably not, but for some reason it's more difficult to understand if a heavy metal band is playing over the vocals, and sometimes the vocals cannot be heard very well cos of they way they 'sing' anyway.........but then, i dont think heavy metal music talks quite so blatantly about ho's and all sorts of stuff, i think it's a little more descreet in some ways!
as for a way of expressing frustration, people will listen to whatever they want, i never had a problem liking the same music as my parents, in fact, now, my dad calls me up and asks if i've bought any new stuff, its just the parenting and the attitude of the kid that makes the difference!

palms down Rap and Hip-Hop. countless the metallic I pay attention to is in keeping with individuals music and sung in Gaulish, an extinct language. The translations to the lyrics are all poetic and talk of the super love and marvelous thing related to the native land.

as a metal fan, i will obviously think that rap is worse but i am very aware of anything offensive when i hear it and it drives me up the wall! i would say that metal deffinetly wins violence! but rap at the moment is sooo sexist! and racist! yo, yo, ducks and diggas, my ***** in the suv
surely we are not doing ourselves as women anyjustice by bying these records we are just furthering the thought of women as less than men, objects, sluts. Metal speaks of violence but if i listen to it it does not make me want to go and hit somebody, its just a way of expressing your anger towards somebody by screaming threatening words whereas sexism, there is no need for and is not portrayed by any emotion as such, it is only unjust

If you want to know a very good vocal coach try to visit https://tr.im/G8IWU an online vocal coaching tutorial. Everything, ranging from breathing fundamentals, vocalizing exercises, techniques on singing high and low notes, how to not go off-key/out of tune/off-sync, musicianship and music theory, proper diction and articulation, and a lot more are covered, all in our native language. It can be quite technical in nature, but it really helps since it covers the musical aspect of singing deeply and not just concentrates on how to impress people with your vocal range, riffs and runs and other cliches that do not necessarily make one a complete vocalist.

Your observation is one that has infuriated many rap artists. They see it as unjust that they get bad publicity when there are many metal bands with nasty lyrics and videos. As rap is predominantely a black music of expression, you have to see it mainly as racial. Personally I don't like any music that spreads messages of violence or rudeness whether its rap, metal or in the UK we now have grime.

It depends.rap has more abusive language and speaks of gun violence and killing people as compared to heavy metal however i cant say heavy metal singers dont cuss.on the other hand as well there are heavy metal bands who talk about killing and carnage as well and there are several who talk about drugs and sex and all that type of things not to mention devil worshipping.and that sort of thing.rap are less involved in the whole devil worshipper thing.but its still not advisable to listen to rap, im not in favour of metal but not to say anyone is better than the other. Metal also depends on what bands you listen to there are those who cuss, talk about sex and drugs, talk about devil worshipping etc so over all id say metal is safer. depending as well on the band chosen.

I think heavy metal is much worse, if you listen to some of the lyrics in NIN e.t.c. Yeah rap talks about drive-bys and disrespects women, but heavy metal takes it so much further than that. Some of the lyrics I've heard my husband listening to is disgusting, and the video's aren't much better. They take sexual gratification to the extreme and add a bit of Sadomasochism for good measure...

I personally don't like either genre.

hadn't thought about it before but as an ageing AC/DC fanatic the words in rap could not be any worse than some of the lyrics used by AC/DC.
sounds like you and dad have good taste.
ps got over the road ok
