It's a euphemistic term for reproduction. Because bees pollinate plants and birds help spread their seeds. It's just something that became part of the language through use and is still with it, in spite of it no longer being customary to discuss reproduction in quite so vague of terms.

because its rated G some adults feel uncomfortable saying the clinical words when discussing sex...for example, I have two nephews aged 7 and 5 who call their private parts wenuses...ugh and LOL!
