What do you think of a job in economy?

My dad wants me to become an economist. I don`t know much about this job. Pls answer to thesse questions:
1. How much does it pay?
2. What are the benefits?
3. How much do I have to work?

The pay averages about $100,000 a year but I think that is for graduate degree. Starting salary with a BA pays more the a liberal arts but less that a technical degree.
