If you were watching the cricket last night, you woud understand my concern. Yet another power failure during an international game. But thats not the only problem, the stadiums are no where near finished. The grass along needs 2 years to cure. And what about all the money that keeps dissapearing? And the Gautrain behind schedual. I dont think 2010 will happen for us. And then what. Cival war because it didnt work out and nobody did anything about it?

And just incase you didnt pick it up, I am a South African, I live here, so I think I know 1st hand what is going on. And the number 1 problem in South Africa is crime, which is cause by poverty, which is cause by the greed and corruption of our govermnet officials.

South Africa will be ready, its a big deal to have the world cup here, Last week the world cup officials were in SA & they say they are happy with the progress & are certian we will be done before 2010.

The question should be what is going to happen after 2010, the goverment would have used all its money on 2010 & then the country will be in huge financial difficulties & lets not forget all the people in goverment that are pocketing our hard earned tax money. I dont know if SA will survive after 2010. A beautiful country will be ruined bcoz we have a hopeless goverment who has no intelligence, They abusing the power that was given in good faith to them. The next Election i hope we can get a more human & intelligent democratic party to be in charge

Why don't you start helping the South African 2010 bid by stop being so negative about everything and do your bit by promoting the country and give the authorities a chance , I happened to be in Europe a year before the Germany WC 2006, and the same kinda thing was being talked up in the press as well as a year before the Sydney Olympics, As i currently understand the major obstacle facing SA is crime and once that is addressed it should be okay, I also understand the Gautrain construction has already begun and they are on schedule for completion late 2009.

Well, I hope Blatter will still live then to see his bloody shame. Africa just isn't ready for big deals like that and that guy just doesn't get it. I wonder what would've happened if South Africa would've hosted the 2006 WC... There's so many problems to solve, how can they dare to think of hosting a WC, building new oversized stadiums and things like that?

I'm sure we'll witness a big desaster in 2010 and FIFA will tell us how brillant it all was...

@ Ali G

I think you mix something up there. The complaining in Sydney and Germany were completely different. They then were talking about standards, not about starting to build/ renew whole stadiums and disappearing money. You might compare it with Athens 2004 or Turin 2005 and the fears have at least in part been right then.

I can't actually believe we have THREE years left !!! And our "progress", is ..... non-existent! I'm rather disappointed ... I think the excitement got a bit too much ....
Trying hard top stay positive, and it would be a HUGE blow if this gets taken away from us.
Do you know how many stadiums are at least ready(or almost)?
The last I heard we were preparing 13, FIFA came and cut it down to 9 ....
I doubt that the Gautrain is ever gonna happen(for World Cup purposes or not!) What the hell is wrong with Eskom??They should've sorted out the power issue LAST YEAR already ... and was it my imagination, or did they actually say that another power station was gonna be bulit(generated by hydro energy)?

It's just too much ....

This has politics written ALL over it !

I think you're right to ask this question but the fact is; I watched a premiership game where there was a power cut at the JJB stadium and when it comes to stadiums, I have to tell you I'm staying in South Africa and can garantee you that any team that you see games being played on won't be used for matches but the ones in question are being renovated and constructed.

Fifa's agent are always here in south africa to monitor how things are going so far... I hope you come over in 2010 and see what our continent will deliver.

Thanx!

They should have the World Cup in the Caribbean. All the major islands have a complex, and my Soca Warriors wouldn't have to travel as far... because T&T WILL be there in '10.
