Actually, it is "Do not let you LEFT hand KNOW what your right hand is doing". (The order part may not be all that important, though it IS typically the right hand --the dominant hand-- that does major actions.)

This is a saying of Jesus, recorded in Matthew's gospel (6:3). It's pretty clear if you read it in context:

"Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

"Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."
- Matthew 6:1-4

It is a saying in the sence of help.....That when you help some one that could be financial or any type of help ....dont show it to others ...dont try to get advantage of helping someone or dont help to be popular in the community u should help others in such a way that if u give some thing to some one from right hand even take it in your heart even your left hand should be unaware of your deed ...so that u would get reward for helping others in secret so that they could also live with self respect in the community.

It means don't do all of your good deeds where everyone can seem them. Some people do good things so that they can get the glory from man, that implies a less than pure motive for doing good. Those good deeds done in secret are seen by God. It also means, "Don't tell everyone your business."
