Since you asked me I would answer honestly, both. Sometimes I regret, sometimes I learn from my mistakes, but most of us know that it's right to learn from your mistakes rather than regret,it's just hard to do so.

Now that I am older, I tend to live much less with regrets, and more by learning from the mistakes I made when I was young and thought I knew quite abit, I've learned not to waste the time it takes "regretting", and spend more time on doing things the right way , even if it means asking for help. Life is short, there's really no time to waste on "Regrets" so move on, nobody's perfect and that's Okay, we're human!!!! Also, living with regrets is "living in the past" not present, so it seems dumb to live in the past, when it's gone and overwith, so why do it?

I learn from not only my mistakes, but I also learn from the mistakes of others. Don't waste your time, living in the past, like a ghost.
Man has only one day to live. Remember, past is gone, and the future is unknown. So, one may regret but for a while, because of the scarcity of time.

We've ALL got regrets that we have to live with. So in my opinion the first part of the question is irrelevant. The second part though is a very important and good question.
I learn from my mistakes, I view them as tools of learning. As for regrets, I've got them and take the upper hand in keeping them in check so that I do not fall into a state of remorse and all that jazz. They pop up once in a while but I use the recollection to reinforce me not repeating it.

On a personal level. I regret mistakes for a short time period, and then move on learning from it. Fortunately I haven't done anything too big.
One could go through life regretting something their whole life and not learn from it. Take for example how some people always go after the same type of people when looking for a partner.
One could also learn from something yet regret it for the rest of their life. I would imagine someone who has driven while drunk, and have someone else pay the ultimate price.

Read This:-
Regret? may be because it bites. but one should not use word " mistake" say an "event" which makes you to gain knowledge, whole life is a training workshop where you appear into various events with your different level of capacity and knowledge and you receive the outcome which may not be the desired one, and based on the result analysys and effect on your life you gain knowledge through experience. these so called mistake (you call it but I prefer to say event) is basically like a school course and chapter and hence this mistake is very much required and is helping hand in development of your life and personality.

I have always tried to learn from the mistakes I've made, and never had room in my life for unnecessary emotional baggage like regret.
The past is gone; let it be. You can hold on to pleasant memories if you like, but there's no good reason to carry regret on your shoulders.
