Does any one else think M. Knight is amazing? What do you think? Which are your favorite films of his and why?

Just noticed, it seems like most responses are from men; wonder why. Did you know M Knight has writen several childrens books? I see that most in Signs. Every scene is layed out like a page in a picture book; simple and fun. I love the Hitchcock-like way he promotes himself and the "spooky" instead of "horror" themes.

I am truly proud that a fellow Indian has made a name for himself in Hollywood. But truth be told, Shyamalan has made ONE good movie - The Sixth Sense. The rest of em are just bloody garbage. The Village pissed me off so bad, I almost broke my TV. His movies always have the same format; building up the suspense for 3/4 of the movie and then having an "unexpected" twist at the end. This would be good IF the idea is executed properly, which he did with The Sixth Sense. But Shyamalan continues whoring and abusing it to a point where it just becomes bland and boring. It's kinda like wanking, when it's all fun and exciting when you first start but after a while you get bored and want the real thing. It's a shame because Shyamalan is a talented person. But I guess that's all there is to him.

I like his work, but I think he's a better director than a writer. Sometimes his plots are too contrived or too far-fetched, and parts of his plots don't work no matter how hard you squint at them.

For instance, why would aliens try to take over a planet that is 70% water on the surface, and where it occasionally rains water from the sky if the substance is like battery acid to them? Even supposing they came here for the minerals, why not go to a desert or mountainous region where they could work without much human involvement? Interstellar travel is a technological marvel, and aliens capable of it should not be fighting with fists, clubs, knives, and wrist/gas weapons.

In the Sixth Sense, which was a great movie, btw, why did Bruce Willis not realize it immediately that he could not interact with living people other than the boy? This one I can let slide a bit because of the psychological aspect of the story... but still. I talk to people every day. I'd think he would too.

I do like his directing talents. I like that he puts himself into each of his films in some small role. I like that his movies can keep you on the edge of your seat or make you jump. But like I said, he's just not that good of a writer.

I adore M. Night Shyamalan; his films are fantastic. Favorites have got to be, of course, The Sixth Sense, just because it was and still is revolutionary. Ever since it, I've been dying to find more movies that have such wondrous twists, and been rather disappointed, though some people do try to emulate him, and do it well (I though The Skeleton Key was similarly creative). But that's just his most famous movie. My favorite one that's not known by many people is Unbreakable- fantastic performances by Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, and a brilliant storyline. One of the most eloquent movies I've ever seen, something that stuck with me for a long time.

Coincidentally, I just saw Lady in the Water not too long ago, and quite enjoyed it. I was so worried it wouldn't be something I'd like, based on interviews I'd seen him give, but I was pleasantly surprised.

But yeah, overall, Unbreakable was fantastic, but all his movies are good!

Sixth sense was my favourite as even though someone spoiled the ending it was still a good film. All the red objects in the movie apparently symbolise death! I also like the way he cameos in all his movies (very Hitchcockian)
Unbreakable was ok, maybe a bit too talky
Signs had a good first 1/2 but I thought the ending was a let down (& too much like War of The Worlds)
The Village was pretty good, quite clever
I haven't seen the Lady in the Water yet, but will check it out on DVD

The Sixth Sense was awesome. But since then he has failed to reproduce anything compelling or anywhere near that quality. He seems to have gotten stuck in the same mode of story-telling, which is tell a spooky story, then at the end put a twist in it. This is where his failing is. His story-teling is still good, but the twists are getting ridiculous. Signs - aliens (which we only ever see one of) who are capable of travelling through space, die if they get water on them. Don't you think if they were smart enought to develop space travel they would also have develop raincoats? What happens if they landed in the middle of a storm? Unbreakable - Samuel Jackson is the supervillian - but what is his reason for going through all that to find Bruce Willis? Just to discover himself??? The Villiage - it seems like an awful lot of work just to fool everyone that it is ye olde days.

I'm sorry, but I think he needs to expand his story telling into new areas.

I like the sixth sense, the others are ok. The Village was cool with a very unexpected twist, but I gotta say i didn't like Lady in the Water. I agree that M. Night is amazing but he is limited now to get his audiences surprised. He is getting a little predictable.

I used to really like his movies. I loved 6th sense and I thought even signs was just about ok. The village had a good concept but didnt deliver much. Unbreakable was unbearable and lady in the water should drown itself. I think he needs to use his own 6th sense and come up with better films now.

M. Night Shyamalan is a very talented director.....
all of his movies are great especially The Sixth Sense cause it was the first known to us.
but my favourite has to be The Others with Nicole Kidman..
it was a very nice movie, although the story might sound familiar but he really gave it the good touch of his ............

M. Night is my favourite director over all of the other greats because his films are so creative and original which makes him standout a lot in my eyes. I haven't seen all of his films yet but I'd say The Sixth Sense is probably my favourite though The Village and Unbreakable are fantastic. :D

I think his movies are good, not sure about amazing. Signs was my favourite but like all of his films I've seen we were able to work out what was happening before they ended. They prove to be a little too obvious - but maybe that's what the viewing public need rather than a good challenge.
