I cannot find any mention of any gatherings or parties in Vegas for Mardi Gras this year, Tuesday, February 20th. I even checked the Rio Casino and cannot find a calendar of events that lists any special events on that day. What do the locals do? Anything?

Orleans celebrates "Mardi Gras"

Rio celebrates "Carnival"

They have a pretty good time down on Fremont Street, it ain't Bourbon Street but it's fun..You can call them to see what they have scheduled for this year - 702-678-5600 -

The Fremont Street Experience is four blocks long, the over head light show has 12.5 million LCD modules. It's an incredible show, if you haven't seen it, it's worth it just to see the light show. It's like watching the Grand Canyon of big screen TV's. They ususlly have at least one band stage and several street performers going.

Las Vegas doesn't go out of it's way to celebrate Mardi Gras, but, I'm pretty sure you will have a good time if you concentrate your time at the Orleans and Fremont Street.

The Orleans was voted by " Trip Advisor" as the #2 "best value" hotel in the WORLD. This is an honor voted on by travelers like you and I... "The Orleans is kind of trashy too, just kind of low class" > you get some less than intelligent comments on YA too...

LV doesnt do anything that special for Mardi Gras. And I read that the celebration they do on Fremont St for Mardi Gras is in April, nowhere near when the actual Mardi Gras is. The Orleans casino is kind of trashy too, it's not rundown or anything but just kind of low class and a few miles from the strip.

San Diego does a bigger Mardi Gras celebration in the Gaslamp than Las Vegas does. Only in New Orleans or another southern city like Biloxi or Galveston will you get a true Mardi Gras experiance. SD's Mardi Gras festival is not that bad either for what it is.

February 20th is a Tuesday, so I'll probably be at Ellis Island Casino & Brewery using my free pizza and beer coupons. Didn't even know Mardi Gras is this month, given that we're 1700 miles from New Orleans.

Las Vegas is not New Orleans. There is no city-wide celebration. Locals go home and have dinner & do what they normally do.

As previously stated, there are a couple of casinos who celebrate due to the nature of their "theme." Your best bet is the Orleans Hotel Casino; off the 'strip' but still fun.
