In general in US, how much money one should have to be considered as upper crust? Also, what are the other charactristics for one to be a creme de la creme?

It is only recently that class is defined by money and the amount or otherwise we have. The reason for this is that the historical definitions that delineated one class from another have largely been eroded as privilege resulting from birth becomes a secondary consideration to wealth.
Britain provides an excellent example of the class structure as was.
It was not defined simply as Upper and Lower but was far more sophisticated,One began with Upper class and there followed an Upper Middle-Middle- Lower Middle- and finally Lower class.
To be a member of the upper class one gained entry by birth and one's family essentially had to have a title.Of course upper class people tended to be wealthy but that was by coincidence rather than definition. The various middle classes were classified again by birth and also by occupation, education, address as well as income. However the anomaly was that a tradesman who earned more than say a teacher would be deemed of a lower class since he would be deemed a professional person and therefore held in higher regard. Up until the second world war,Britain's class structure was jealously guarded and pursued but more by the middle classes from whom there was more snobbishness shown to the lower ranks than to themselves from the upper classes. The essential consideration was 'Breeding".Where did you come from?
What was your family and their history?.-highly important factors especially when it came to marriage. It would have been a cardinal sin to 'Marry beneath oneself' i.e into a class lower than that from what you had been born into.
But fine to marry the other way around because by doing so 'one was bettering them self.
Today,Britain's creme de la creme is defined as would be elsewhere. The criteria is wide ranging and would included:
1) Celebrity status-talented or otherwise.
2) Convicted criminals whose misdemeanor was of sufficient interest to be published in the form of a book
3)Anyone who has played Premier League soccer
4)Any model who can negotiate a catwalk
5)Anyone who has recorded a C.D.even if it is entirely unoriginal and musically inept
6)Adherence to everything that is politically correct.
7)An inability to string together a sentence without the inclusion of "you knows' or 'like' constantly interjected.
8)A passion for resolving African famine and global warming.

Any of the above and you're in with a chance- oh and you need cash too and a P.R.expert to let the press know exactly how much which when revealed to the world allows you to bask in the smugness of achievement and the knowledge that yes-you are in with the creme de la creme

$50,000 - $100,000 a year = Middle class
$100,000 - $350,000 a year = Upper middle class
$350,000 - $500,000 a year = Well to do
$500,000 - 1 Million = Rich
1 Million - 50 million = Super Rich
50 Million - 150 million = A True Player
$150 million and up = Creme de la creme

I heard recently that if you maintain $2,200 in a bank account (or have that value available to you in cash in any way) you are in the top 10% wealth-wise.

For the hard facts, here is a very informative website about class in the US. You can even take a survey to see where you fit in.

Class is not determined by money. Any society that attempts to do so has no class at all.
