Agree with Tiki Goddess!! You could also think along the lines of stuff she might like help with after the baby arrives- arrange for someone to do her laundry maybe, or to come and cook for her once a week. Even a babysitter for a day, or evening, so mum can have a sleep or a night out with hubby! When my friend was expecting her first, the other 4 in our group made little vouchers for her to redeem- out of each of us, she could get 2 nights of homecooked meals (everything provided by us), 2 days of housework, 2 days of Auntie taking baby out for the day, 2 evening babysittings, and 2 nights where we had to come around and pamper her (facial, manicure, etc). We gave her our schedules, and if we were free on the day she requested, we had to go!! This was a very close friend, and it works better with a few people. And of course we were always there for her anyway! But its an idea you can tweak for your own purposes. Sometimes your time is far more valuable to a person than a physical gift!

Might be a little on the pricey side, but maybe a gift certificate or something of the like for say, a day of house cleaning for after the baby is born. It depends on a lot of things, like maybe she has a big family and won't need much help, but something like that could be a gift from heaven!

Every time I give this, I get thanks. Go to your local Target (or Walmart, if that's the only thing available, or a more expensive place if you want to really pamper your coworker) and buy everything you think she'll need for her stay in the hospital, toiletry-wise:
--shampoo
--conditioner
--body wash
--body lotion
--toothbrush and toothpaste
--travel hairbrush and comb
--hair clips and/or hair bands
--a small shower puff (usually for faces, they work in a pinch for showers, too)
--some extra-long, extra-absorbent overnight maxi pads
--anything else you can think of
Put it all in a cute bag and tell them that you know that getting ready for the baby is stressful enough; this is one less thing they'll have to think of. After having a baby, most women feel gross and icky and can't shower until they have a bm, so they stay that way for at least 12 hours after the baby's born. That first shower after so much physical effort is incredibly refreshing; giving her some great-smelling stuff (not too perfume-y, though, because babies can be sensitive to strong fragrances) will make her feel that much more human.

Wow personally for me as I don't get much me time, or nice me and husband by ourselves time, we don't go out much because we are saving up for the baby, I would love a night out at a lovely restaurant, or a beauty spa treatment.. I think though I would prefer a night out away from work and home.
If it was somethign to do with my best friend, well a spa treatment, or a gift ceretificate to buy clothes to fit my new body, which my best friend could come shopping with me, have a girls day out, coffee, cake and all things fatening

Some kind of home-spa treatment, so she can maybe relax and have some "me time" while hubby looks after the baby. Tea light candles, aromatherapy bubble bath, a good book, maybe one of those inflatable bath pillows... and a nice comfy nightie for after the bath.

A gift certificate for a massage, one that specializes in pregnant women. I live in a small town and they even have one here!
