How do you use the ScanDisk transflash adapter?

I bought a phone and got one of these. I already figured out where it goes and everything but when I put it in, it doesn't do anything. Is there something I need to download to make it work?

My phone requires that you turn off the phone and then turn it on with the card in. So it's best to turn off the phone before putting in or removing the card from the phone. This allows the phone to recognize the card on reboot.
