My fave is "The Fatal Voyage" , it is a true story about the sailors on the USS Indianapolis in WW II, they were delivering part of the A_Bomb and were sunk by a jap sub. The book is told by the survivors. I started to read the book and HAD TO CALL IN SICK TO WORK BECAUSE I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!!! The next day I told my husband, (cuz I pretended to be asleep when the alarm went off!) He start to read the book an cussed me out 2 days later, cuz he also called in sick to work! It's an amazing story. I don't know if I could live thru that! Another good book was "The Battle of Bataan". Enjoy. Even if you're not a military buff , you will like these. I WAS not a buff until my dad (A VET) suggested these to me.

My all-time fave stand-alone novel would be Beauty by Sherri S Tepper, she is a fantasy/sci fi writer and in this book she manages to blend time travel, environmental issues and traditional fairy tales - like, Beauty is the main character in the book (as in Sleeping Beauty) and the title is also used metaphorically, the loss of beauty through the destruction of this planet.
My favourite trilogy (actually it is a double trilogy - there are 6 books) is by Traci Harding and is titled The Ancient Future. Time travel again that starts in present day and rather quickly ends up in the Middle Ages and also Atlantis and even outer space - awesome stuff and changed the way I perceive life and existence!
