If there is something wrong with the baby, there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Go to your practitioner and ask to have your levels drawn (hcg and progesterone). If your progesterone is low, you can use a cream or suppositories to boost it and that *could* prevent a miscarriage if the fetus is viable. Good luck!

I think you are getting great advise from everyone, just remember to take things slow. Don't over due your self or daily activities. Stress can play a major role in miscarriages, so try to relax and breath even if this was not planned you can make the best of every situation. Find the love deep in you and you will be a wonderful mother. Congradulations, children are a blessing!

Congratulations, first of all. Do you have a history of miscarriage? If not, then there is no reason to think you are at particular risk for one.

"Chromosomal abnormalities of the fetus are the most common cause of early miscarriages, including blighted ovum" -- there is no way to prevent miscarriage for these abnormalities, and you wouldn't want to.

Assuming that there is no reason for you to do otherwise, just live your life. Get moderate exercise, don't smoke, don't drink any alcohol, take your prenatal vitamins, get plenty of rest, eat lots of good food, find an obstetrician you like, don't obsess over your weight, and think happy thoughts.

Congrats on your pregnancy...your very lucky!!!...take care of yourself in the following ways...change your eating habits to things more healthy for both you and your baby...take your vitamins!!!!...and try to not do too much exercise that would endanger your pregnancy....your doctor is going to be your best friend from now on...keep in touch with him...get checked regularly and just dont stress out too much over it...i'm sure you'll be fine....but if you ever have any doubts or worries your doctor would be the best person to talk to...once again good luck throughout your entire pregnancy...oh yea try not to eat too much spicey food...not good...

Congratulations!
My wife is 4 months pregnant for our first child. I posted the same question here on answers.yahoo.com, but I'd previously asked on the nutrition for pregnancies. I was thankful to have "poetrystouch" to give me this link. It is verry useful....

To much tips, and advice that is available for pregnancy, and me and my wife are now still searching for more & more articles and tips on pregnancy. Try to get some books and magazines on pregnancy - they may give you extra tips and advises.

As long as you take verry good care of yourself, avoid long distance walk and overstress your body, get good food & nutrition, along with doctor's certified supplements, stay emotionally positive, I'm sure everything is going to be okay. Don't skip your routine check with your doctor/gynecologist... You can ask them as much as you need - on food, etc.

Congratulations again.... :)

Go see the doctor, make sure you don't carry any thing heavy and avoid stress. Avoid alcohol, and cigarettes.

By the way, congratulations, my mom had a baby when she was 42 and he has kept both of my parents young.

Don't phsically tax your self, and get plenty of sleep and vitamins. 36 is not that old. My mom had me when she was 43! Just dont put yourself in a dangerous situation, and trust your doctor to tell you if you are in danger.

To top all the good advice that's already been given, I suggest avoiding any form of stress, mentally and physically.

zero alcohol. good sleep, prenatal vitamins and moderate excercise. if you haven't been to the dr. yet, go asap because of your age, you will more than likely be considered high risk. that's okay don't panic, it just means that they will do more and more frequent testing. I'm 32 and just had my first. Be glad you waited, it's amazing!
