They are missing in the Goblet of fire, and the story line was changed to allow for this. Does anyone know why the elves have been written out of the movie?

Thanks for the answers so far but can we limit the responses to people who have actually read the books and understand that the house elves are linked into the main plot heavily and to remove them damages the story line.
Yes i agree a little too much time is spent on them in the books but when it comes to key points in the movie they do play key roles.
eg: the gillie weed scene.
If they return in the next movie i will be plesed but if they have been removed totally form the rest of the movies i fear the plot will suffer.
Were they removed for representing something the writers feared the public would not like their children to witness, ie; slavery, the house elf seldom lives a charmed life.
Did the writers sensor the script to this aim or is there another reason for their removal.

house elves play a very important role in the story...in the recent movie, it was supposed to be the house elf giving harry the gillyweed he needed to breathe underwater, but they reverted it to neville. it made a bad impression in my part.
there's supposed to be plenty of house elves exposure on the next movie, thanks to hermione. if they are still out of the story, i'd really get to hate it. anyway, i like reading the book than watching the movie in the first place.
i guess it's what they call, cost cutting.
pity for them...

Well, just F.Y.I, JK Rowling has cited in an interview that she has told the directors of OrderOfThePhoenix to INCLUDE Kreacher, the black family house elf to the movie. He will prove indispensible and very important to the plot. However, one guess why the elves have been written out of the movie is due to the extensive CGI,and perhaps it will incur their budget. But no one can put a price on the harry potter movies! THEY ARE GOOD,but the last one was disappointing just cos they left out lots of minor details such as the one you have mentioned above.

I have not have been given any theory yet in my opinion i don't think of he will. each movie takes extra or less a 365 days to movie and that doesn't incorporate edititing or something like that. the possibilities of dobby returning are very slender as he's a trifling sub plot. he isn't rellevant to harrys destiny or something in the books. he's only in basic terms a firend and as I presonally be attentive to it takes an prolonged time to do the laptop animations and so on. probability is they are going to shrink him out. Its unhappy yet its needed that they shrink out all factors they think of are actually not completely proper so as that the movie does not drag on constantly. Emma W xx

Probably the same reason that Peter Jackson had to write Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire out of the LOTR movies. They can only include so much for the movie version, so they try to stick to one primary plot line, and have to sacrifice what they feel are "minor" plot lines... it's for the sake of the movie.

it's a time consideration, the elves story is a side story it contributes very little to the main plotline, so they had to focus on what was important to the exclusion of all else.

they're not important and will just add to the length of the film. and, also, they are a bit scary looking...
