I have Creative Gigaworks ProgamerG500 5.1 speakers. My sub and tower both sit on the floor. How far away should they be from each other or does it not matter? Is the magnetic field strong enough to possibly mess up my hard drive?

Not your hard drive, but your monitor would be more at risk. If you have a CRT and not a flat screen, the magnets contained in any speaker can produce a colored mark where the magnetic field is closest. You can DeGauss a CRT though if that does happen.

So basically, to answer your question, you can keep them as close as you want. The technology that runs hard drives is much like a record.. the head reads the information coded on disks within the hard drive, and isn't as susceptible to magnets of magnetic fields. Hope this helps!

You are talking about one of the Highend Speakers from creative and i am sure they would be Magnitechally Scheilded.

So you can safely put it near your Computer or Monitor.

But in some cases you might notice some disturbance in your monitor when you place speakers near them.

Then you can shift them by some 1-2 feet.

But for creative and ur model i dont think there would be any issues.
