I don't really want to try Vista quite yet but I need a new computer, so are there any newer computers out there that have Windows XP but are Vista ready? I went to a couple of stores right before Vista came out and they had plenty but I (regrettably) didn't buy one then and now it seems like they're all out.

You can try Dell. I've just seen they have workstation (PC) come with XP or Vista on the same model.

I know BestBuy and Circuit City did but I cant say they still do. Vistsa ready really just means it has a gig of ram and a video card.
I dont have vista yet but even though they (Microsoft) have been testing vista months and months, there will be bugs and possibly major security holes. Id recommend as a general rule to wait 3 or 4 months before jumping into a new OS. I know it sounds silly but this gives the hackers time to dissect it and exploit it, then microsoft can patch it before you even own it. If you cant find an windows XP, vista ready PC, Id say wait a while. This might save you some serious headaches in the near future. Good Luck with your decision.

first off , vista has been having a lot of issues so if your buying a new pc , make sure you get it with xp , which is upgradable to vista in future , Some of the commmon issues with vista are
1 - Yahoo messnger doesnt support voice in Vista
2 - Many vb6 compiled programmes that used to run on xp dont run on vista
3 for gamers vista has been causing a major lag issue
4 - Vista has been found vurlnerABLe to many spyware and virus attacks
I have vista , and i would recommend waiting a little while before you get it . Vista is in its trila phase right now , the only major thing about vista is DIRECT X 10 , which takes gaming to a whole new diffrent level ,
Vista cossumes 3 times the virtual memory as compared to XP

Vista is way cool, but unless you have a stacked PC, it may not work too well. I upgraded from XP to Vista Ultimate and everything runs more smoothly: games (esp. Sims 2), apps. It's really made my PC faster and is a huge improvement. Also, contrary to what another person says, there have yet to be any security flaws found with this new version... maybe the beta, but not the final release (not yet anyways). Like a said before, it does take a bit of hardware to achieve satisfactory performance. Here's what I'm running:
-Gateway 835GM with 2.8 Ghz Intel Dual-Core 820 (an early dc chip)
-3 GB of high-speed RAM
-nvidia 7800GTX Overlocked Graphics card
-250gb root drive, plus another 2.5TB between a 2nd drive and an external RAID 5.
- Hauppauge WinTV double-tuner card (great to use with the media center functionality.
My base score for this setup is 4.7

I love it. I just got a week ago and i cant put my laptop down. There r too many cool features to list. Go to the vista web site and read about. Its better to buy one with it already loaded then to go to the hassle of having to do it urself and also paying the extra money to upgrade it. Please take my word, its great!!!!
