Cigarettes contain nicotine, which is an addictive agent. Just like with anything else that is addictive, your body develops a dependency on it. Therefore, when you do not get that substance, your body goes through unpleasant withdrawal symptoms, one of which are headaches.

To the non-smoker that tries a cigarette, the feeling you get is similiar to being intoxicated with alcohol. Head feels light, and you feel sort of drunk for a brief period.
The regular smoker's body becomes accustomed to the level of nicotine in their body. After the body has had a significantly prolonged exposure to nicotine, it craves the nicotine, and essentially, needs the nicotine. That is why when people try to quit smoking they get the symptoms such as headache, nausea, irritability. Some smokers tell me that a cigarette is their best friend. If they get upset, they have a cigarette, and it calms them right down - that's the nicotine doing it's job!
Bad, bad bad for your health!!

It's a really bad crave - you just need to scratch those lungs of yours. And there is also the mental part of it - smoking is one of the strongest addictions, indeed.
schrickhellcat up there seems to be an exception, but there is definitely physical addiction. And smoking feels good for smokers. Really good. So good that you don't care at all about the negative consequences.

Because of the social decay, things better are not really all that obvious to prefer.
How can one be happy to not do what is unhealthy unless there's an obviously more healthy alternative? Being social creatures of habit, as born out by psychological study, without a genuinely happy social productivity, we fall into vices to intoxicate our body and mind rather than being true fellows and friends.
This is the guaranteed source of the mischief which leads one to perform self indulgent acts...
Though indeed, sugar is a broader used drug of choice, and at least equally deleterious is such large amounts as commonly consumed. It causes the negation of motives towards benefitting others as it is used, along with other food and drugs to stimulate a self-satisfied stuppor of mind and body.
When a happiness in the world of mankind is broadly felt, then no deleterious agents will be acceptable to hinder that sharing of well-being.
However, "All is of God", and none should condemn another for the exercise of freedom so long as its infringement on another's well-being doesn't disturb the equalibrium of the whole of humanity, and "...one innocent life taken is as taking the life of all".
I pray no innocent lives will be taken by those negligent enough to cause any to be driven to drugs for their feeling of being outcasts, nor any those habitual users seeking return by the hidden longing for aid to ever be shunned for temporary disuasions.
God bless.

It is hard to quit smoking because the belief is that it is hard to quit smoking. That is a lie. There is really no physical craving. It is all in the head. Why would I like to smoke something that chokes me, tastes bad, and kills me? It is not hard to quit. The government wants you to think it is hard to quit because they make money off of the tobaccoo industry. The industry wants people to believe that it is hard to quit, so that they get afraid and what does a smoker do when they are afraid. Light up. The most effective way to keep smokers smoking is by showing ads for ciggarettes and then showing people with lung cancer, no voice, emphazema. It scares them to keep smoking. It is easy to quit smoking. I have experience. smoked for 4 years read the book easy way to quit smoking and havent had one since.

It's the nicotine and the hand-to-mouth action habit. I smoke and I find myself lighting a cigarette, having the first drag, and then realizing that I didn't want a cigarette. I don't get headaches but I get antsy.

Yes I'd say it's like a very bad itch and you HAVE to scratch it or you will go crazy. But you know you shouldn't because if you do, then you are just hurting yourself.... don't ever smoke.
